Common causes of admission in ER with non-specific pain and their differential diagnoses

Course Description:

This course will explore common causes of emergency department (ER) admissions and their differential diagnoses. It covers a wide range of topics, including cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal, musculoskeletal, neurological, and infectious diseases. The course will also emphasize the importance of differential analysis in the ER setting and provide guidance on how to approach patients with unknown diseases.

Meeting 1: Chest pain 1

  • Cardiac causes: Heart attack, Coronary artery disease, Coronary artery dissection, Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Aortic dissection, Aortic aneurysm, Mitral valve prolapse, Aortic stenosis, Heart rhythm problems.
  • GI causes: Gastroesophageal reflux disease, Ulcers, Esophageal spasms, Esophagitis, Gallstones Hiatal hernia, Gastritis, Pancreatitis.

Meeting 2: Chest pain 2

  • Pulmonary causes:, Pulmonary hypertension, Pneumothorax, Pleurisy, Pulmonary embolism.
  • Musculoskeletal causes: Rib fracture, Sprained chest muscle, Costochondritis, Shingles.
  • Panic attack

Meeting 3: Chest pain 3

  • Asthma
  • Pneumonia
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Lung cancer

Meeting 4: Chest pain overview: Computer-Based Case Simulations and multiple choice questions.

Meeting 5: Abdominal pain 1

  • RUQ: Hepatitis, Gallstones, Cholecystitis, Liver cancer, Gallbladder cancer, Bile duct cancer, stones and strictures, Kidney infection, Kidney stone, Duodenal ulcer, Large bowel obstruction.
  • LUQ: Pancreatitis, Pancreatic cancer, Splenomegaly, Gastritis, Stomach ulcer, Bile reflux, Stomach cancer.
  • Kidney problems, pain referred from the chest.

Meeting 6: Abdominal pain 2

  • Lower abdomen: Irritable bowel syndrome, Functional dyspepsia, Inflammatory bowel disease, Large or small bowel obstruction, Small intestine cancer, Colon cancer, Abdominal aortic aneurysm, Peritonitis, Mesenteric lymphadenitis, Intestinal (mesenteric) ischemic syndrome, Hernia, Kidney stones.

Meeting 7: Abdominal pain 3

  • Pain referred from the pelvic organs: Endometriosis, Ovarian cysts, Pelvic inflammatory disease, Ectopic pregnancy, Ovarian cancer, Uterine cancer.
  • Left lower quadrant: Diverticulitis, Diverticulosis.
  • Right lower quadrant: Appendicitis

Meeting 8: Abdominal pain overview: Computer-Based Case Simulations and multiple choice questions

Meeting 9: Headache 1

  • Primary headaches: Tension-type headaches, Migraine headaches, Cluster headaches, New daily persistent headaches (NDPH),
  • Primary headaches triggered by lifestyle factors or situations: Alcohol and nicotine consumption,

Certain foods, Poor Posture, Skipped meals, etc.

Meeting 10: Headache 2

  • Benign Secondary  headaches: Dehydration headache, Sinus headaches, Medication overuse headaches,
  • Serious or potentially life-threatening secondary headaches: Spinal headaches, Thunderclap headaches

Meeting 11: Headache 3

  • Stroke

Meeting 12: Headache overview: Computer-Based Case Simulations and multiple choice questions.*

Course Delivery:

The course will employ a blend of lectures, interactive case studies and simulations and group discussions. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in reflective learning and share their experiences and insights.

Assessment:

Assessment will be based on active participation and case analysis.

Certification:

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion.

Prerequisites:

Participants should have a background in healthcare or a related field.

After the successful completion of the training , you will receive international certificate.
